Gisborne is a small wine region to the north of Hawkes Bay noted for its Chardonnay and Gewurztraminer. It is also the world's most easterly vine producing region located on the North Island where the weather is usually warmer than on the South Island.
The wine we have chosen from Gisborne is called Series 548 and came into being as a result of the producer (Rod Easthope) winning the 2014 Winemaker of The Year competition which allowed him to secure funding to produce a Gisborne Chardonnay.
This Chardonnay is light for a Chardonnay and has hints of white peach and brioche flavours. A small amount of new French oak was used and a portion was matured in concrete egg shaped tanks, giving lovely flint and earth notes.
